Category: Accessible Games
Hi, Gang
Just wanted to let you folks know of the latest in the Blind Gamers series. The announcement is reprinted below. Please direct all questions to the game author or visit the included url. I would like to hear of your experience with this Chess thing. When I had Windows, I played some of these games; they're quite good, and price is right.
You can read all about the new game by visiting the blind gamers page at:
www.spoonbillsoftware.com.au/blindgamers.htm
BG Chess Challenge runs in three different modes: Blind accessible, Vision impaired and Sighted, so it is suitable for all levels of visual acuity. It is also suitable for beginners as well as experienced chess players. A separate Word document explains how to play chess, if you have never played before or need to brush up on the rules and you can set the computer player's skill level anywhere between Novice and Expert, so that you can be ensured of a challenging game regardless of your own skill level. In blind mode, graphics are still provided so that sighted spouses can play along with their blind partners. As with all Spoonbill Software's accessible games, it is completely self voicing. You will only need your screen reader to read the on-line help, or the separate How To Play Chess document.
BG Chess Challenge is the fourteenth game in the Blind Gamers series of accessible games and is free for the asking. Just reply to this email requesting BG Chess Challenge and stating your full name and country of residence. Only people who have kept me up to date with their latest email address will be able to be notified of new games. Why not send for a copy today, even if you've never played before, and take up the chess challenge?
Think I will. THanks a lot for this. I suck at chess though.
Hmmm, think I might check that out.
yes, thank you, was going to post this my self. have not had time to play the game but will let you know what i think as soon as i do
i've been having trouble getting the game, since he can't send to gmail addresses
Oh, that's why I never got a response? Thanks for that, I was really getting mad when I requested games twice and got no response. Is there a logical reason why he can't just have them up on the site since they're free to download anyways? And why can't he send to gmail accounts? Doesn't he realize that gmail is the most accessible web-based email, so a lot of blind people are bound to have it?
Wait, never mind, I might know the answer to one of my questions. Is it because gmail doesn't allow you to send .exe files? But even still, you can zip them up, that's no excuse.
Yeah, why doesn't he just put them on the site itself? I wondered that myself.
You would do better to ask him directly than to speculate on here regarding his inability or unwillingness to post his games for download.
lol..well if you guys had read the FAQ section on his site, then you would have the answers to all these questions. He isn't hosting them on the website because he doesn't want to have to pay for additional space etc. Gmail checks the contents of Zip files as well, so having Zip attatchments with EXE files would still be Denied. Hotmail or Yahoo are better for those types of files.
I Suggested to him that he should make an FTP server and run off his system, that way it would make the distribution of the Games a bit easier... Not sure if he's going to do it tho... Hope that answers some of your questions...
